The Green Week is back with a wide-ranging programme in 2022

The 87th edition of the long-running popular show will take place from 21 to 30 January 2022.

Experience modern farming innovations first-hand, sample specialities from all over the world, or say “hello“ to spring in the Floral Hall. From 21 to 30 January the International Green Week (IGW) will kick off trade fairs in 2022, and visitors to the Berlin Exhibition Grounds can look forward to the customary wide-ranging programme on offer. Among the traditional highlights will be the Floral Hall (new in Hall 7.2a) and the redesigned Livestock Hall. The International Green Week 2022 will be held under “2G“ rules. In accordance with the latest directives this means that no masks need be worn.

The Floral and Livestock Halls, highlights for the public, get a makeover

This year the Floral Hall is relocating from Hall 9 to Hall 7, and with more than 60,000 flowers will be a harbinger of spring in Berlin. The Livestock Hall (Hall 25) is getting a complete makeover, which means there will be more room for the animals and a better view of the arena from the restaurant area. From 28 to 30 January 2022 visitors can experience the new live atmosphere at HIPPOLOGICA, Berlin’s largest indoor equestrian event. Other highlights for the public will include the Federal Show of Heavy Horses (21 to 23 Jan.) and the Federal Show of Fjord Horses (24 and 25 Jan.).

Experience a wide range of products from all over the world

In 2022 visitors can once again take a culinary tour at the Green Week. Be it the Netherlands, the Alpine or Nordic countries – many have already registered for this long-running event. “The current travel restrictions mean that some countries will be unable to attend. Morocco for instance has cancelled its participation. However, overall we are very satisfied with the wide-ranging programme we are able to offer despite the pandemic“, said Lars Jaeger, head of the IGW.

Innovations in farming and the food industry

At the Farm Experience the German Farmers’ Union (DBV) will be offering a glimpse of farming today and in the future. Under the slogan ’Food Trends of the Future’, the Federation of German Food and Drink Industries (BVE) will be showing what food production in the future will look like. Other highlights will include the displays of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and the Street Food Market. “The Green Week 2022 will be more compact, as some exhibitors are not participating. In terms of content we will be offering our visitors the wide-ranging programme they are used to at the Green Week“, said Lars Jaeger.

“2G“ rules ensure a safe environment

To ensure the Green Week retains its special attraction, Messe Berlin has decided to hold the event under “2G” rules. “’2G’ rules currently require neither masks nor social distancing, so to a certain extent this normalises our long-running event“, said Lars Jaeger. In accordance with the latest version of the Infection Control Directive of the Land of Berlin, all persons taking part in events under “2G“ rules must be either vaccinated or have recovered from Covid and supply corresponding proof in electronic form. Under this regional directive, special rules exist for children: those under the age of 12 must be tested. In the case of schoolchildren who are subject to regular tests for attending school, presentation of a student ID (as per the Berlin Infection Control Directive) is sufficient as confirmation of a test. Children up to the age of 6 need not be tested. Detailed information on admission requirements can be found on the website of the Green Week.

Safety and hygiene concept

In order to ensure the safety of all participants Messe Berlin has established a comprehensive safety and hygiene concept. Due to the generous layout of the halls and the lower level not being used, accessibility at the Green Week is improved. This also prevents larger crowds gathering, at entrances, in foyers and corridors for example. Admission to the grounds is only permitted for holders of a personalised online ticket, in order to guarantee thorough contact tracing. Tickets can be purchased as of December from the ticket shop on the website of the IGW. Information on the hygiene concept is updated on the website at regular intervals.
