Messe Berlin to focus on trade visitors for the time being – International Green Week 2021 will be an exclusive B2B event

·       A look ahead to 2021: Berlin trade fairs maintain key functions for industries even under Covid-19 conditions
·       International Green Week 2021 will be an industry event for trade visitors

Messe Berlin will place the emphasis on trade visitors at upcoming events, and in doing so will aim to maintain the core functions of trade fairs for individual industries even under Covid-19 conditions. This also means that due to the coronavirus the upcoming 86th edition of the International Green Week will be an exclusive B2B event without the general public.

“With our trade fairs we want to continue to offer the companies from the many sectors we have been working with for many years a platform where they can engage in a dialogue. We will be developing individual concepts for each sector. Our focus will be on B2B business in for the time being“, said CEO Dr. Christian Göke.

The International Green Week traditionally kicks off Messe Berlin events in the new year. In January of this year Messe Berlin welcomed around 400,000 visitors to the trade fair and conferences of the 85th International Green Week. “Under the current circumstances and as responsible hosts, it is impossible for us to hold a trade fair of this size and comply with the necessary distancing and hygiene regulations. After closely consulting with our partners we have modified the concept and are placing the emphasis on trade visitors“, Göke added.

The teams at Messe Berlin are developing safety and hygiene concepts tailored to each of the trade fairs currently scheduled. The concepts are being coordinated with the relevant public health authority in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. The basis for this is a general concept which the company has put together and published on the website at:

From now until April 2021 Messe Berlin has scheduled the following events:

IFA 2020 Special Edition

The IFA 2020 Special Edition will take place from 3 to 5 September in Berlin. It comprises three separate in-person events that will maintain the core functions of IFA and focus on trade visitors, retailers and exhibitors. The maximum daily attendance at each event is 750. The IFA Business, Retail & Meeting Lounges are where industry and commerce will be able to meet. SHIFT Mobility meets IFA NEXT is where cross-sectoral innovations will be presented. At the IFA Global Press Conferences media representatives can find out exclusively about the latest products and services and witness press briefings and IFA Keynotes in person. IFA will also present IFA Xtended Space, a virtual addition to the event, where visitors can watch streamed content, make use of matchmaking tools and attend virtual product presentations. Anyone can visit IFA Xtended Space, which is free of charge.

Smart Country Convention

The third edition of the Smart Country Convention will take place on 27 and 28 October 2020 and will be a Special Edition occupying virtual space. At the same time, in compliance with the limitations imposed on attendance, a small group of speakers and decision-makers will gather in person on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. This concept has been organised by the digital association Bitkom and Messe Berlin in response to industry requests. The events on 27 October 2020 will be devoted entirely to eGovernment, while on 28 October the focus will be on smart cities. The programme will be broadcast live from the studio at hub27, and participants will have numerous opportunities to exchange views on specialist subjects. For those interested, registration for the event is open now and free of charge.

BOAT & FUN

BOAT & FUN will kick off with Inwater, an outdoor event at Werder/Havel, where from 4 to 6 September 2020 visitors can not only view but also test and directly purchase boats. A range of information and sales stands will round off the programme of events. The actual trade fair, BOAT & FUN Berlin, will take place from 19 to 22 November 2020 and will be showing visitors what Berlin and Brandenburg, one of Europe’s largest regions for water sports, has to offer. In addition to the various boat displays, supporting events including AngelWelt Berlin, AUTOTAGE and a Camping & Caravan section will present a wide range of topics focusing on water sports and outdoor activities.

International Green Week

The International Green Week 2021 will take place as an exclusive B2B event without the general public. The German Farmers’ Union (DBV) and the Federation of German Food and Drink Industries (BVE), the non-commercial sponsors of the event, as well as the Federal Ministry of Agriculture are currently working on the concept and topics of the 86th International Green Week.

FRUIT LOGISTICA & ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA

FRUIT LOGISTICA is the leading trade fair for the global fruit trade. It will take place from 3 to 5 February 2021 and has always been an event for trade visitors only. Customer demand for the event is already extremely high. With this event, Messe Berlin will be offering participants an opportunity to network, exchange knowledge and will provide access to interactive content. Starting in December 2020, ITB Asia will also host the second edition of the ’Travel Meets Asia’ networking series in various Asian countries, enabling international exhibitors to meet senior buyers from the respective regions. The next ITB Berlin will take place on the exhibition grounds from 10 to 14 March 2021. On the weekend of 13 and 14 March the World’s Largest Travel Trade Show will open its doors to the general public.

BUS2BUS, the meeting place of the future for the bus transport industry and its supply sector will be taking place on 14 and 15 April 2021. In response to the coronavirus crisis it is relocating to new halls, will open over a shorter period (two days) and will include virtual formats.

DMEA

DMEA – Connecting Digital Health will take place live on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds from 13 to 15 April 2021. It will also include some elements of this year’s DMEA sparks, an entirely virtual event, and make these available to participants. The aim is to provide attendees with an outstanding platform for a dialogue on the digital transformation of the healthcare system.

InnoTrans

This year, starting on 21 September, the world’s leading trade fair for transport technology will host a virtual preview. The actual exhibition will take place on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds from 27 to 30 April 2021.
