Grüne Woche 2024 - Focus on sustainability, food security and the future of agribusiness

The Grüne Woche will transform Berlin into the world capital for food, agriculture and horticulture from 19th to 28th January 2024. 1,400 exhibitors from 60 countries will inform visitors about modern agriculture and the food industry, culinary trends and sustainable topics. The political highlight is the Agriculture Ministers' Conference organised by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture

From 19th to 28th January 2024, the Grüne Woche will make the Berlin Exhibition Grounds the top address for current topics relating to food, agriculture and horticulture. With 1,400 exhibitors from 60 countries, visitors can find out about modern agriculture and the food industry, culinary trends and sustainable lifestyles. The political highlight is the Agriculture Ministers' Conference with 70 international ministers as part of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) organised by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

"The current protests about the future and importance of agriculture for our society are visible to us all," says Dr Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin GmbH. "The Grüne Woche offers the best platform for taking the debate off the streets. During the ten days of the Grüne Woche, the Berlin Exhibition Centre will be the meeting point and marketplace - not only for exhibitors and guests from our region, but also for politicians, agricultural and food associations, the media and civil society. We are looking forward to professional discussions and, above all, to many visitors enjoying their time at our Grüne Woche."

Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Cem Özdemir:

"The Grüne Woche is the highlight of the agricultural and food industry. In the halls under the green-lit radio tower, new business partners are found, industry trends are presented and culinary delights can be experienced. In recent weeks, agriculture has moved more into the centre of social debate. And that's a good thing, because agriculture concerns us all - it feeds us every day. Together, we want to put German agriculture in a good position for the future. This requires a broad discussion and all stakeholders are involved: agriculture, the food industry and trade as well as consumers, of course. The Grüne Woche is the perfect place for this because it brings them all together."

Political industry get-together

From food security to stable supply chains, sustainability and environmental protection to rural development and future fuel alternatives - many current industry topics are on the agenda at this year's Grüne Woche. Experts will be discussing the future of the industry in more than 300 seminars, panels and specialist discussions in Berlin. The political highlight is the 16th Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA, 17th - 20th January). Under the motto "Food systems of the future - Together for a world without hunger", the Federal Ministry of Agriculture is inviting more than 2,000 experts from politics, business, science and civil society to the world's most important agricultural policy conference. The event will conclude with the Agriculture Ministers' Conference on 20th January with around 70 participating agriculture ministers, which will take place for the first time in the CityCube at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. Other prominent guests: Janusz Wojciechowski, EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Cem Özdemir, Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, and Kai Wegner, Governing Mayor of Berlin, will speak at the official opening of the Grüne Woche on 18th January. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz has also announced his visit to the fair.

Global market overview in 28 halls

On 117,000 gross square metres, trade fair visitors will experience a global market overview of the food industry as well as the largest range of international and regional specialities. Numerous special shows focussing on agriculture, forestry and horticulture will provide trade fair visitors with information on current topics for ten days. Other highlights include the Flower Hall and the Animal Hall as well as Hall 3.2 with the ErlebnisBauernhof and the special show "Future Tastes Good" organised by the Federation of the German Food Industry and the German Food Association. The Federal Government is represented by three special shows organised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Federal Ministry for the Environment. The German Bundestag will be on hand to inform citizens about the tasks and working methods of parliament. German organic farming associations and certified German organic producers will be answering important questions about organic in Hall 22a

Dialogue platform for agriculture and the food industry

The Grüne Woche is organised by Messe Berlin GmbH. Its conceptual sponsors are the German Farmers' Association (DBV), the Federation of German Food and Drink Industries (BVE) and the German Food Association. At today's opening press conference, the supporting organisations gave an outlook on the upcoming industry year 2024.

Joachim Rukwied, President of the German Farmers' Association:

"At this year's Grüne Woche, we will communicate to people what is needed to maintain a stable and reliable supply of high-quality domestic food in Germany. In order to avoid dependence on foreign countries, we need our own competitive, strong agricultural sector. Self-sufficiency with domestic food must be maintained. Politicians must set the right framework conditions for this."

Christoph Minhoff, Managing Director of the Federation of German Food and Drink Industries (BVE):

"Securing our food supply in the face of global political crises is and remains the greatest challenge for the entire supply chain. Companies in the food industry are taking on the challenge of always being able to offer high-quality and affordable food despite the difficult economic environment. We invite all interested parties to get an idea of our food diversity in Germany, which we will be presenting with various elements and partners at our stand."
