Messe Berlin digitalises event logistics
For the first time at IFA and InnoTrans, two large-scale events, the VisiFair digital logistics system controlled around 15,000 traffic movements to the exhibition grounds, thus helping to avoid tailbacks.
At IFA and InnoTrans, two large-scale events, the new VisiFair digital loading slot management system helped Messe Berlin control around 15,000 traffic movements to the Berlin exhibition grounds. According to Messe Berlin, since the launch of the new system in September the results have been positive throughout. During the construction and dismantling period it was possible to reduce HGV and delivery van tailbacks around the exhibition grounds to a minimum. Being able to book loading times and zones via the digital system meant access to the exhibition grounds was coordinated and well organised. The VisiFair digital tool was developed by Messe Berlin in partnership with VisiTrans GmbH.
“Digitalising event logistics is an important part of our digital offensive“, said Martin Ecknig, CEO of the Messe Berlin Group of Companies. “Not least, with this optimised traffic management we are preparing for the construction work that is due to begin on the Funkturm motorway interchange in 2024.“
Whereas at InnoTrans 2016 traffic was backed up onto the autobahn during trade fair construction times, in 2022 there were no major tailbacks caused by delivery vehicles. “It means we are significantly reducing heavy traffic around the inner city and at the same time CO2 emissions“, said Martin Ecknig. “Even if the visitor flows during event times continue to cause tailbacks now and again around the exhibition grounds, that is so to speak the price we pay for our success, which regularly brings tens of thousands of visitors annually to the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.“
